Hana Zagorová, the greatest Czech singer, songwriter, and actress, passed away this Friday. She was 75 years old. Hana was a huge pop sensation and was known as the most popular Czech singer. Read on to know how did Hana Zagorová die and her cause of death.
Zagorová was a nine-time recipient of the Golden Nightingale award. She had been recording music since 1964. Ever since the news emerged, fans have been posting tributes for the late singer on social media platforms.
How did Hana Zagorová die?
Hana Zagorová died on Friday, August 26, 2024, at the age of 75 years. Her health had been deteriorating for a long time due to old age-related issues. She also contracted Corona virus in September 2020 which made her condition worst.
All her work commitments since last August were canceled due to that. On Thursday, Hana was discharged from the hospital after being admitted for an illness. She stated, “I feel better” in an interview with a local media outlet.
However, Hana’s husband, Stefan Margita, 64, announced the tragic news of her passing on Friday. She reportedly passed away due to natural causes.
Hana Zagorová dead: What was the cause of death?
Hana’s family didn’t reveal the exact cause of her death. However, fans have been speculating that several health issues she was suffering from played a role in her eventual demise. Hana wasn’t well for a very long time.
She was also battling an uncommon condition called Paroxysmal Hemoglobinuria since the 1970s. It is a life-threatening disease of the blood. She underwent several transfusions to survive. It’s unknown at the time of writing if this disease was the chief cause of her death.
Hana Zagorová enjoyed a Legendary Singing & Acting Career
Hana Zagorová was a Czech singer, songwriter, actress, and presenter. She had been recording music since 1964 and has over 900 songs to her name. She won the national Zlatý slavík music award nine times, making her the person with the second highest number of victories in the award’s history.
Hana was born on September 6, 1946, in the Ostrava region where she also grew up. Her father was a civil engineer and her mother was a teacher. Zagorová first attracted fame in the 1963’s singing competition Hledáme nové talenty.
She studied and graduated in acting from the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Brno in 1968. After that, she released her first single, “Prý jsem zýraná”, in the same year. She started appearing on television and performed with the famous band Flamingo the next year.
Zagorová also started collaborating with Václav Zahradník Orchestra, with which she recorded her first album Bludička (1970). The record contained one of her biggest hits, “Bludička Julie”. She also sang the ensemble Sodoma-Gomorrah (Zagorová, Jiří Štědroň, Viktor Sodoma).
Zagorová starred as one of the main characters in Zdenk Podskalsk’s musical movie The Hit (1980). From 1980 to 1986, she worked with Petr Kotvald and Stanislav Hloek, and then started working with the musician and composer Karel Vágner.
She had numerous performances and tours, mainly in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. In 2006, she released the poetry collection Milostn. She also appeared on stage in the music Jack the Ripper by Václav Patejdl in 2007 and Michal David’s Mona Lisa two years later.
Zagorová also performed in the Apollo and Semafor theaters and won countless awards throughout her long and illustrious career. She was inducted into the Hall of Fame at the Anděl music awards in 2015. Her last studio solo album, “I’m not afraid,” launched in 2018.
Hana Zagorová Married Twice in her Life
Zagorová’s first husband was Vlastimil Harapes, a dancer and ballet master. The couple got married in 1986. The marriage lasted for six years until they got divorced in 1992.
After that, Hana married Slovak tenor Štefan Margita in the same year. They remained together until Hana left for her heavenly abode this Friday. Štefan was by her side during her final moments.
