“That was a big one, but I am ok” – Esteban Ocon provides health update after horrific crash during FP3 in Miami
Esteban Ocon had his FP3 session end early as he spun and crashed his Alpine during the challenging Turn 14-15 chicane on Saturday afternoon in Miami
Esteban Ocon‘s accident came early in the final practice session, giving his Alpine team a job to do ahead of the first-ever qualifying session for the Miami Grand Prix. It was the fourth red flag of the Miami GP weekend after Valtteri Bottas, Sainz, and Nicholas Latifi encountered trouble on Friday.
Thankfully, the team confirmed that Ocon is fine and didn’t suffer any injuries. “Esteban was taken to the medical centre as a precaution as the impact was over the G limit. He has been cleared by the FIA medical crews and we expect him back soon,” tweeted Alpine F1 team.
However, Ocon will be missing the Miami GP qualifying as a result of this crash. While Ocon is fit to race, he will not qualify and is therefore likely to start Sunday’s Miami Grand Prix from the pit lane, given a crack in the car’s chassis. “We can confirm that sadly Esteban won’t be taking part in qualifying this afternoon. His chassis was cracked in the impact of the barrier and cannot be changed in time. Esteban is physically fine and will race tomorrow”, Alpine confirmed on Twitter.
