“We should have done better”

Sebastian Vettel registered a DNF while Mick Schumacher finished in 15th place as a result of the crash in the Miami GP

The collision occurred on Lap 53 of the first-ever Miami Grand Prix. Friends and compatriots Mick Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel collided against each other while fighting for P9, thus ending their chances of finishing in the points.

Schumacher – who was looking set for his first points finish in Formula 1 – was battling with Esteban Ocon for P9 when he ran wide at Turn 17, which let Vettel through. As they approached Turn 1, Schumacher attempted to slide down the inside in an attempt to regain the position but hit the inside of Vettel’s car as the Aston Martin driver turned into the corner.

The stewards adjudged neither driver to be at fault but Vettel said after the race that both he and Schumacher “should have done better.”

After the race, Vettel stated – “It is obviously a shame we both made contact and both missed scoring points. We should have done better, I need to look again. I’m disappointed for Mick and myself obviously that the two of us lost a good opportunity to score points today.”

Meanwhile, Mick Schumacher is looking forward to having a chat on the incident, with his mentor, Vettel. “Obviously, it’s hard to say and hard to judge from inside the car.” So, I have to wait and see how it looks from the outside. But I’m sure it will also be good for me to see what Seb thinks about it. We’ll just have to move on from here“, said the Haas driver.

There is a fair amount of gap between the top 2 teams and the rest of the grid with Mercedes occupying third place having earned 95 points.
